It doesn't feel like a year has passed since we reviewed the original ASUS Transformer and its innovative keyboard dock, but indeed time flies, and quite a bit has happened since then. The company has released the Prime, for starters, followed by two other high-end models. And now, the OG Transformer is going the way of the dodo, as the affordable new Transformer Pad 300 (aka the TF300) takes its place. Though this newest tablet was announced back in February, it's only just going on sale in the US this week, starting at $379 for the 16GB version, and $399 for one with 32GB of built-in storage.
In addition to the fact that this replaces a truly memorable product, the TF300 is intriguing because it represents an even better deal for consumers: it borrows some design cues from the higher-end Prime, and also steps up to a similar 8-megapixel camera. Like the Prime, too, it runs an unskinned version of Android 4.0 and packs a quad-core Tegra 3 chip -- something you don't often see in a tablet this price. In short, the main differences between this and the Prime are battery life (10 hours versus 12), and the quality of the display (the 10-inch screen here offers 350 nits of brightness instead of 600). Those all sound like reasonable trade-offs and, frankly, they are. That's our abridged review, over and done with in just two paragraphs, but meet us past the break if you're craving a little more detail.

While most of the hype around UFC 145 has been around Jon Jones and Rashad Evans, there are 11 other bouts on the card. What questions will they answer? Read on.
Are the young phenoms with similar names the real deal? Michael McDonald and Rory MacDonald are both barely old enough to buy a beer after their fights, but have 28 bouts with just two losses total. McDonald's bout with Miguel Torres will show if he is ready to jump towards contender status, while the last time MacDonald fought with such a bright light on him, he was knocked out with seven seconds left to go by Carlos Condit.

What did the loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira do to Brendan Schaub's mental make-up? If you've been reading Ben Fowlkes' excellent series, "The Hurt Business," you know Schaub is a fighter who needs to train his psyche as much as his takedown defense. The loss to Nogueira would be tough to take for any fighter, as Schaub looked close to a win before Nog came back with the Brazilian crowd roaring behind him. Perhaps the loss steeled Schaub for his next bout. Perhaps it shook him. We'll find out Saturday.
Can Chad Griggs handle the jump in competition? In Strikeforce, Chad Griggs' last three bouts were against Valentijn Overeem, who had dropped two out of five bouts heading into their fight, Gian Villante, who is 2-2 in Strikeforce, and Bobby Lashley, the former pro wrestler who hasn't faced the best in competition. Now, Griggs will face undefeated Travis Browne. Will he win his UFC debut?
What did being cut do to (or for) Miguel Torres? In December, Miguel Torres was cut from the UFC after making a joke about a rape van. He was welcomed back after doing charity work and making a full apology. In his first fight back, Torres wasn't given an easy bout. Instead, he will have to fight McDonald, the aforementioned phenom. Can Torres show he's still a relevant bantamweight?
Is it possible for Jones/Evans to live up to the hype? This fight has been talked about for more than a year. Even Jones and Evans are sick of talking about each other, about their coaches, about their former friendship, and about what they plan to do to each other. Now that they're so close to actually punching each other in the face, expectations are so lofty that nothing short of a Dan Henderson/Mauricio "Shogun" Rua-esque bout will satisfy. Looking at Evans' last few fights, that's unlikely.

A Munich disc jockey held for five hours as a sex slave by a 47-year-old German woman said on Monday he would press charges of sexual coercion and deprivation of freedom against a woman he had met just a few hours earlier in a local pub.?
The 43-year-old disc jockey named Dieter S. told Munich's T.Z. newspaper that he had to call police to rescue him from the woman's flat in Munich after she locked him inside, hid the key and forced him to have repeated sex with her.?
"She was sex mad and there was no way out of the flat," Dieter said. He told the daily, which had also earlier published a police report about the incident, that he had consensual sex with the woman three times earlier that day on Easter Monday.?
?"I was having a beer at the pub after work and met this woman -- and we hit it off right away," Dieter said, referring to their meeting at a pub in Munich's Ludwigsvorstadt district. "She was quite attractive," he added.?
But after the first consensual rounds, Dieter said he wanted to leave. He discovered she had locked the doors from the inside and hidden the key so he could not leave. He thought about trying to flee over the balcony but it was too high, he said.?
"I realized I was trapped and had to keep going until she fell asleep," Dieter said. "So we had sex five more times."?
As soon as the woman fell asleep, Dieter said he went out to the balcony and placed an emergency call to police on his cell phone. Police arrived 10 minutes later.?
The woman unlocked the door to let the authorities in. She then promptly propositioned the officers, police said.?
"She tried to persuade the police officers to join her in 'related activities' -- albeit unsuccessfully," Munich police wrote in a press release.?
The woman was taken into custody and later released. She now faces charges of sexual coercion and deprivation of freedom.

Recently a fascinating trend emerged. The rise of Pinterest and other interest-based social networks has suggested (or perhaps reminded us?) that there are in fact limitations to friends' recommendations and, thus the Facebook Social Graph. All those ticker feeds about what terrible music your friends are listening to? Yeah, that. Heavyweights like Max Levchin (Google/PayPal) and Bill Gurley (Benchmark Capital) have weighed in on this. Levchin has said: "Social graph signals have not been helpful in optimizing advertising that is related to search." That is a powerful statement, and makes one wonder about Facebook's future. For instance, I habitually 'Like' things not because I am interested in them but to sort of 'reward' the person for posting something. It might be a dumb picture which is funny, but I don't literally 'Like' it, I just think it's funny and want my friend to know it. How many new baby pictures do you Like a month? You may not even actually like babies - you're just being polite. Now, colourDNA, (its a British startup so the spelling of colour is therefore British English), plans to capitalise on its deep technological approach to understanding what we really do like based on colour, and thus drawing on that interest graph to create value for the user, starting with an iPhone app. It's a little smarter than it first sounds.Source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/Techcrunch/~3/DSNEqI6jk8E/

What do you do when your lab results are perplexing and contradict or add a new element to a finding you thought you already had sewn up? Today?s video shares (and maybe celebrates) that frustration of those who?ve experienced this!
Perhaps you recall a very catchy tune and animated video about life in the lab I covered in the post?Ph. Diddy is on the scene! An Animated Music Video for Biotech Lab Work
From the same group at Life Technologies Corporation comes the second installment called ?Ph.Diva and the Mystery Band?. Let?s watch!
Andrew Green (@andrewjgreen on twitter) has been in charge of this series of videos about cell and molecular biology research and gives us an idea of what it takes to make a video that accurately captures life in the lab:
?Our inspiration for telling these stories comes from a shared fascination for science. As with the Ph.Diddy video, the Ph.Diva video is?a tribute to all the dedicated and hard working every-day-heroes of science ? male and female!?We wanted to capture the dynamics in a lab, and the ups and downs that all who have worked in a lab will recognize.? We salute the efforts they all put in ? and we share their passion for science!
We put a lot of effort into two things:
1) getting the story right
2) getting all the details, details and details right.

Ph.Diva from Life Technologies' new video!
April Brite, (aka the Ph.Diva) is?one of the many brilliant and experienced scientists out there?and?a well-respected Postdoc.?To create the story and the lyrics, we first whiteboarded her journey, the emotions she would go through.?She is thrilled when her abstract is picked for an oral presentation, and starts preparing her presentation. When everything does not go exactly as planned, we see and hear how she meets frustrations, anticipation, fascination and determination. Will she make it in time for her conference? These are emotions and situations?that those who have been in science have experienced and can identify with ? including ourselves (many Life Technologies marketing people have a scientific background, some even have a Ph.D). We also included a few of our own R&D staff in the story-making. ?The song was recorded, and the audio file sent to the animators.
We work with an external partner for the actual animation artwork, but we are basically the art director and executive producers ourselves. They got the lyrics in a word document, sprinkled with tons of notes explaining the emotions and stages she?d go through, and how the different scenes would typically play out. Like a link to a video on YouTube showing how to lift a microtiterplate out from the PCR-machine. Or a link to an image of how a PCR-gel or a qPCR result, a primer sequence and a pre-PCR lab actually look. Along with explanation on stuff like the conference abstract submission process and the concept of being picked for and prepare an oral presentation etc etc. We were happy to see how they were able to take this detailed input and work all the details into the video!
Because of the careful preparation and the detailed art directing, most of this was relatively smooth sailing. ?One thing we did have for the animators to understand, was how the dynamics between the Ph.Diva ?and the PI is different from the one we saw with Ph.Diddy and the PI in the previous video. And how an unexpected and rather suspect scientific result can turn out to be a good thing that can actually advance science further!
We are already working on the next music video in the series, this time featuring both Ph.Diddy and Ph.Diva. And a fourth one is also being planned ? stay tuned!?

If you are in the process of choosing furniture for your living room, then you follow these simple and useful tips and guidelines for a booming purchase. You can find just the right style and design for your living space. Don?t go further on or ahead and just pick random furniture that you like. Start off with picking a most important and main color for all your furniture. The color would either have to match with your walls or it should be your preferred and favourite. Now that you have selected and chosen your color it?s time to visit a shop. Shopping for living room furniture can be a daunting undertaking. There are so many styles available on the market today, and not all of them will compliment the design of your living space. Once you have chosen your furniture you need to maybe mix and match it with others.
?
Step One: Furniture is expensive, but it can be long-lasting. If you choose brands and furniture items that are well-known for having an excellent reputation, then you might be able to use them for a decade or more without having to be anxious about replacement costs. That doesn?t mean that you have to go to luxurious furniture dealers! Some high quality pieces of furniture for your living space can be found at furniture outlets and discount stores. Even stores like Big Lots can carry reputable and high quality pieces of furniture. If you are trying to stay on a budget, purchase a high quality couch first. Your living room will look incomplete without this basic and critical piece of furniture. If you stage your area, stick with neutral pieces of furniture, and purchase quality pieces, your living room will quickly become your favorite room in your sweet dwelling.?
Step Two: Take a Blue Couch, for instance. You could mix that blue couch with a blue and white pillow. It?s about the blend. Check and make sure that you don?t mix colors in an unattractive or ugly way. Make sure it?s suitable for you and later in your life.
?
Step Three: Make sure that the furniture items you select for the bedroom or living room are long-lasting. You do not need to go for the colorful furniture items as these items will not solve your purpose. It is better that you always choose for quality bedroom furniture after shopping and comparing the prices available at Internet furniture stores. It is significant that you make the right start by choosing only authentic online store.?
Step Four: Make sure that the bedroom furniture which you buy fits the bedroom. It is incredibly important that the size of living furniture should be such that your bedroom seems more attractive and pleasing. The size of living room furniture plays vital role as it creates the necessary space which is required in it. Keep in mind that you do not buy the living room furniture stuff which does not fits and appropriate with the bedroom or living room.?
Step Five: Well, your furniture would be useless and ineffective if it is not relaxed and comfortable for seating. Make sure that you will take note of how comfortable the furniture is. Those made with high-quality materials can make you feel more relaxed. It will also make your living room look more inviting and appealing.
?
Lastly: Certainly, living room furniture can add a diverse twist to the entire living space. Aside from the beauty and attractiveness it can give, it will also make the living room look more calming and comfortable. Guests will definitely have a good time if you are able to place the right furniture pieces into this area. So, if you are still planning to purchase living room furniture, you might want to consider the above tips. Also, you might want to look into different design ideas and tips of living rooms that could assist you set up the whole area. Now you are finished your room will totally be the most excellent.?
